Fortunately, Aunt Mien from Delft wanted to put on fathers work coat slowly, one more time on request.

COALSENSATION

COALSENSATION

From 1973-’80 Wim van Sijl's first studio was located in coal barn Walkade 15. In here every Friday night social and artistic meetings took place. Here guests drank wine, smoked hash and listened to music. Here people ate toast, wrote texts and gave lectures. This was COALSENSATION: a play of LIVING = ART or life as a work of art that was visited by ± 300 guests.

Coal barn Walkade 15 was converted into a studio in 1983-'84. Memories of the COALSENSATION were than incorporated into a configuration of bottles, texts, photographs, objects and sounds and sold to the BKR.

In 1994 the ambience of Coalsensation came back to life and developed over a period of six weeks in Kunstruimte Kampen with lectures, vodka and various objects. The temporary Coalsensation was recorded in the publication Tiepografie van een Kroonlugter III.

In 2016 Coalsensation acquires new meaning for LIVING = ART. In the old living room of the coal man and former Studio Walstraat 6 art space Coal.2 is founded. Passers-by will be able to experience different kinds of art through the windows and gain insight into the presented art and the W-Domains by means of text signs. Coalsensation is now an interaction between daily life and temporary presented art projects.

The interaction is reinforced in 2018 when a socle for temporary sculptures is installed in front of Coal.2's windows.

The designation 'Satellite Location Museum IJsselstein' in 2017 reinforces the aspect of LIVING = ART, which is thereby further disseminated.

On OpenKunstZondag, the first Sunday of the month, Coal.2 is open to the public from 1 to 5 pm.

ERFGOEDKUNSTWERK

In 2002 is Erfgoedkunstwerk W-Domeinen notarieel geformaliseerd.

HERITAGE ARTWORK

On the corner of Walstraat-Walkade in IJsselstein lies Heritage Artwork W-Domains, consisting of three coal sheds, two houses and a horse stable of Coal Trade Batenburg Van Sijl (1860-1982).

The heritage has been preserved and developed by Wim van Sijl and has been designated as a work of art through his artistic interpretations.

The W-Domains arose from the renovations of the coal barns Walkade 15 and 17. Later, the horse stable, coal barn Walkade 19 and the homes Walstraat 4 and 6 were added to the complex.

Because of its conceptual content and artistic layout, the historical complex has a meaning as a work of art. Based on the theme 'LIVING = ART', the Heritage Artwork W-Domains will retain its right of existence in the future. Management and maintenance are laid down in the Act LIVING = ART for the next 700 years.

In 2002 Heritage Artwork W-Domains is notarised.
